Massage sessions are offered in clinic 3-4 days weekly and in-home once or twice weekly upon arrangement within a 10 mile radius of the Ballard area.

 

 

Prenatal Massage

Pregnancy is an incredible time of creation. It can be quite miraculous and also quite a strain on the growing mother’s body.

Massage is beneficial in many ways and during pregnancy is shown to:

  • Promote relaxation

  • Reduce stress & fear surrounding birth

  • Relieve strain on bones & muscles

  • Improve immune system function

  • Increase blood flow to placenta & fetus

  • Improve birth outcomes & bonding

You might choose in-home massage sessions:

  • If you have older children that nap

  • If you've been put on bed rest

  • If it is easier for you to relax in your own home than traveling for a session

Labor Preparation Massage

Every woman desires a gentle birthing experience. Connecting mind, body and emotions can facilitate the process. Massage during this time is focused on a woman’s needy muscles and joints and additionally on education about body awareness, how to relax and strengthen the body’s structures that are vital to the birthing process and as a time to share fears and excitement about impending labor.

Massage for labor preparation is shown to:

  • Relax & open the muscles of the back, hips, pelvic floor and legs

  • Increase self-awareness and body intuition

  • Decrease fear surrounding the birth process

  • Promote understanding of proper breathing and helpful self-care techniques

Postpartum Massage

During labor, a woman often uses each muscle she has to position herself in ways that facilitate the descent and birth of her baby. In the days after birth, she may be feeling like she just ran a marathon without enough sleep while attempting to perfect the art of breastfeeding.

This is such a delicate time of bonding, healing and adjustment to a new self and a new family way.

Massage during the postpartum period is shown to:

  • Contribute to healing of strained skin, muscles & organs

  • Provide emotional and psychological support during a time of transition

  • Assist in realignment of the spine and pelvis

  • Relieve muscle pain associated with caring for a newborn

You might consider an in-home session:

  • If you had a long labor

  • If you had a c-section

  • If you have breastfeeding challenges

  • If getting out of the house feels daunting

Mother Massage

Activities like breastfeeding, carrying, floor play, night waking, feeding, and other daily duties can put strain on a mother’s muscles and joints each day. Massage alleviates the stress put on shoulders, arms, back, hips and legs and provides mom with some time to nurture herself.

You might consider an in-home session:

  • If your child's nap schedule makes it a challenge to get out

  • If it is easier for you to relax in your own home than traveling for a session
